Sustainability Commitment And Industry Leadership

Tek Pak is committed to becoming the sustainability leader in the thermoforming industry. There is no time to spare in slowing global warming and eliminating the leakage of plastic into the environment, so we have set an ambitious target for ourselves: to become carbon neutral by 2033. To get there, we are acting now to promote a circular economy for plastic packaging by recycling all our post-industrial plastic scrap and increasing post-consumer recycle content in our products and throughout our supply chain. We are working to become ISO 14000 registered by Q1 of 2024. All employees participate in programs to reduce landfill, water, and energy use. We are now measuring our sustainability results and reporting on them annually.  

The current Tek Pak sustainability outreach efforts include the involvement of Tek Pak facilities and the communities in which they serve.

  • Tek Pak has an internal Sustainability Committee charged with developing and implementing sustainability policies and processes to benefit the region in which Tek Pak operates and the employees at each Tek Pak facility. The Tek Pak Sustainability Committee has also been working on expanding the recycling bins in each Tek Pak facility to ensure that items such as pallet banding, wrapping, and plastic containers are appropriately organized for recycling and making sure that clean paper, cardboard, and beverage containers (aluminum and plastic) find their way into labeled recycle bins.
  • The Tek Pak Batavia and Kautz buildings have been audited under the Department of Energy's (DOE) Industrial Assessment Center program by the University of Illinois Chicago. The final DOE reports are expected soon, with recommendations for sustainability improvements at both Tek Pak's facilities.
  • Tek Pak is beginning the process of obtaining an ISO 14001 certification, the international Environmental Management system standard. ISO 14001 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It helps organizations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, gaining a competitive advantage and the trust of stakeholders.
  • Tek Pak is also sourcing more sustainable office and facility supplies and creating eco-friendly packaging, from boxes to packing tape.
  • Tek Pak is now a member of the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR): a US-based international non-profit and the only North American organization focused exclusively on improving r recycling for plastics.
