There's More to Quality Control Than Just Quality and ... Control

Have you ever been to a store, picked up an item to purchase, and found a flaw in it? It happens all the time. Slight imperfections in products occur, slipping past internal quality control processes. If the defect is minimal or something that does not detract you from your purchase, that product blemish goes undetected and unreported. For those companies in manufacturing, there is a premium placed on producing perfect products with no mistakes. While it is always the goal to have every item manufactured to perfection and flawless, the reality ... perfection can be difficult to achieve.

In most settings, the act or process of striving for a flawless product during production is often referred to as Quality Management. The reality of producing a consistently ideal product on a day-to-day basis proves, for most, to be a challenge. Quality Control and Quality Management require oversight, established procedures, and processes during the selection and integration of raw materials, ensuring that the output includes consistent, high-quality products. Every mass-produced item follows a strict set of specifications for both the raw materials used and the final product.

  • Manufacturing Quality Management comprises four categories: Control, Assurance, Planning, and Improvements.
  • Control - Checking for and removing any substandard product before it reaches the consumer.
  • Assurance - Safeguarding repetitive production processes, ensuring continuity and consistency.
  • Planning - Departmental dedication pertaining to the creation and ongoing implementation of various checks and balances.
  • Improvements - The process of reviewing, accepting, and implementing new technology in a constant commitment to 100 percent production.

In thin plastic thermoforming, maintaining high-quality production standards is something every company strives for. Companies like Tek Pak, Inc. have achieved a higher production standard, allowing for accreditation, including ISO 9001: 2015 certification. This certification is an international standard that differentiates manufacturing facilities. The certification assures a customer that the manufacturing occurring within a certified facility is consistently reviewed to ensure that all protocols and procedures are being followed.
