Food Success Stories
Problem Solving
“Everyone has turned me down”. One day a gentleman walked into Tek Pak owner, Tony Beyer’s office and started the conversation with that statement. As the discussion continued the man explained what he believed would be an “industry changing” idea of how to package and dispense a food product. As the questions and answers continued the customer explained all the other packaging companies, he had presented the idea to. And every one of them turned him away saying it “couldn’t be done”. Tony pointed out that this concept while unusual was not going to be cheap to develop and test let alone actually change the market trends. When asked about what the retail price would be, the answer was it would be 4 times more expensive than the current product but that the advantages and convenience would outweigh the cost difference. Retail cost or not, just the design and prototyping would be expensive and a challenge. Tony and the Tek Pak team of design engineers took on that challenge, and the design began. After numerous changes, revisions and updates the first prototype was created and tested. Addition changes needed to be made but eventually, the new packaging was born. The customer then did the market testing and followed by a national launch. Slowly as the gentleman had predicted, the acceptance grew until the success was, and is to this day astounding. Since Tek Pak’s early involvement the product has continued to evolve. No one could have imaged that little package costing four times or more than the mainstay would become a household staple. While we can not share the name of the product or company due to a strict NDA, rest assure it is something that everyone has heard of and many use in their everyday life. To this day, Tek Pak is still called upon from time to time to help with the ongoing packaging needs of this product. And to think it might not have happened if Tony, and Tek Pak had not accepted that first challenge to create something everyone said no to.
Time is Money
Often times when a new customer calls, one of the first questions they ask is “How much will it cost?”. Our answer is always twofold: “What exactly do you want us to do?” and “How fast do you want it?”. To us, pricing projects have two major determining factors. After we understand what a customer actually wants us to do. How much design time will be needed, what tooling resources need to be committed, what material and who will supply it, what are the requirements for the prototyping tool and samples, how will those prototype samples be evaluated, and what changes need to be made and re-sampled before final approval and then how large of a production tool and final piece part pricing are targeted. After all of those requirements are flushed out, then the second question is “How fast do you need it?”. At Tek Pak time is money. We do everything within our capabilities to meet a customer timeline. If that timeline is reasonable there is a price. If that timeline is shorter than normal, then that price becomes X +. And, in some cases, if that timeline is incredibly short, that price becomes X ++. It is up to the customer to determine the value of speed.
Time is money and speed is what Tek Pak does without sacrificing quality or ingenuity. We are proud of our speed and our unique capabilities. We look to serve those whose packaging requirements and timelines required exceptional effort and or results.
